PennDOT is rehabilitating, repairing and repainting the steel superstructure and replacing the deck of the Chestnut Street (PA Route 3) bridge over the Schuylkill River that connects Center City Philadelphia with University City and West Philadelphia. The $103,589,847 project also will replace the decks of three adjacent Chestnut Street bridges (over 30th Street and Amtrak; over CSX rail lines; and over 24th Street), two viaducts on Schuylkill Avenue and two ramp structures for I-76 (Chestnut Street WB off-ramp, Walnut Street EB on-ramp).
PennDOT is repairing the long, deteriorated viaduct that carries the Schuylkill Expressway/I-76 along the west bank of the Schuylkill River in Center City, from Arch Street just west of 30th Street to the CSX bridge near the University Avenue exit. A smaller structure over Route 23/Conshohocken State Road east of the Conshohocken/I-476 Interchange in Montgomery County also is being repaired.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is investing almost $90 million to rehabilitate the 2,589-foot long U.S. 1/Roosevelt Expressway viaduct between the Broad Street and Wissahickon Avenue/Germantown Avenue exits in the Nicetown section of Philadelphia.
PennDOT is in the midst of a long-term, multi-phase initiative to rebuild and improve Interstate 95 in Pennsylvania. Five major projects to reconstruct the I-95 between the Interstate 676 and Cottman Avenue interchanges in Philadelphia are in various stages of design or construction, including active projects at the Girard Avenue, Allegheny Avenue and Betsy Ross/Bridge Street interchanges. Construction also is underway on the Adams Avenue Connector.
